美國總統大選最後一場電視辯論畫下句點後，兩大黨總統候選人周四(20)日，又在天主教會一年一度的慈善盛會「艾爾史密斯晚宴」同時亮相車拼。這次兩人不吵架改成講笑話，也打破僵局來了個君子之握。
據《蘋果日報》報導，川普先發表演說，他說：「通常這種演講都要自嘲，大家以為這對我來說很困難，其實不會，我這麼謙虛。」台下笑成一片，他還拿自己的老婆自嘲，瑪蓮妮亞在共和黨代表大會的演說詞，曾被指抄襲第一夫人蜜雪兒歐巴馬，川普說：「媒體真的不公平，蜜雪兒那番演講人人讚好，我太太說了一模一樣的演講詞，大家卻找她麻煩！我不懂大家怎麼會這樣?」觀眾哄堂大笑。
希拉蕊在川普之後登上演講台，她說：「不知道川普能否接受這樣的和平轉移?」並揶揄川普老愛在辯論時插嘴：「這是個倡議友善的晚會，我演講的時候，歡迎川普隨時跳出來說我錯了。」希拉蕊卸任國務卿後到處演說賺錢，曾引發批評，希拉蕊就拿來自嘲：「今天你們撿到便宜了，因為聽我演講通常要收很多錢。」
日前據《彭博社》報導，晚宴做為是否勝選的指標，川普和希拉蕊或許會努力營造出彬彬有禮、真誠的氛圍。不過據美國有線電視新聞網(CNN)報導指出，川普和希拉蕊似乎比較習慣吵架，以玩笑方式嘲諷對方互揭瘡疤，然而觀眾不太買單。紐約市前議員昆恩（Christine Quinn）說，她已多年參加這項年會，在這樣的慈善晚宴上，大家很少口出惡言。
